Saturday, Oct 22 - on to Elko

This trip is part "road trip" and part business. Our plan is to visit Zion NP, Bryce NP and Capitol Reef over the next few days. We'll arrive in Salt Lake City on Wednesday evening for the beginning of a Rotary Zone 27 Conference which will run through Sunday.

I have figured out how to embed a map of our route for the day into the blog post. Its a bit convoluted but it works!

We left this morning at about 9:30, stopped by Janet's to drop off some Halloween stuff, then headed down through Nampa, taking the scenic route through Owyhee County. The map program says we should take the freeway to Mountain Home, but who wants to do that? So, the route takes us down through Murphy and Grandview, Idaho, then into Owyhee, NV, on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation. Quick stop for a bit of lunch at the tribal convenience store. The road then winds up through the Owyhee River canyons to Wild Horse Reservoir at the top, elevation about 6200 feet.

We arrived in Elko about 4:30 to find our Best Western Hotel. Its about a 270 mile day. Nice ride on good roads all the way, no traffic (literally, none!) Weather clear, temp low 60s.

Excellent dinner at the Stockman's Casino, then right down the street to the Chrystal theater to see "The Accountant".
Cove Recreation Area at CJ Stryker Reservoir. Nice place!

Wondering why Best Western has changed its logo. It looks tacky; not particularly recognizable.
